Thyristor power controllers and power switches are extensively used in the industry for controlling power delivery. They regulate and switch the AC operated loads and deliver precise amounts of power to heaters, motors, transformers, etc.

The principle behind controlling power delivery is the thyristor triggering mechanism. There are two main types of techniques:

  1. Phase Angle Control: This technique controls power by only allowing the desired percentage of the AC power supply to be delivered to the end device.
  2. Zero Crossover: As the name suggests, power is controlled by turning the power on and off when the AC signal crosses the zero mark. This provides for a noiseless, transient free switching of power.
